Recovery mode choices

The options you’re presented with may vary based upon your device, but there are certain criteria which are always there. You can always select from:

Reboot system today: This will restart the device normally.

Employ update from ADB: The Android Debug Bridge permits you to plug your device into your PC and issue commands from there. It’s intended for programmers and requires you to set up the Android SDK (software development kit).

Wipe data/factory reset: This will wipe all your information — photos, videos, music, programs, everything — and then return your phone to its original factory condition. This may also wipe the cache partition.

Wipe cache Interface: This is temporary system information largely linked to program installations, and you can delete it without losing any personal data or settings. Wiping the cache partition can address a multitude of problems and you won’t lose any data or settings, so there is no real danger involved. We recommend this as a cure for plenty of common Android issues.

NOTE: As it published Android 7.1, Google has eliminated the wipe cache partition option for devices that get seamless upgrades. You need to be able to do the same thing by visiting Settings > Storageand tapping Cached data.

A word of caution about Factory Reset Protection

Every device running Android 5.0 Lollipop or after has Factory Reset Protection (FRP) turned on by default. What this signifies is you will be prompted to input the username and password to your Google account, even after doing a factory reset.

The idea behind this step is to discourage thieves, since even a factory reset through the retrieval menu will not give them access to a cell phone. However, it is worth keeping in mind if you’re planning on wiping your cellphone before selling it or passing it on to another person. To avoid FRP, be certain you visit Settings > Accounts and eliminate your Google account prior to doing a factory reset.
